SWITCHmirror started its operational service on Wednesday 24 March 2004. It replaced the former Swiss SunSITE server, which had been a collaborative effort of cnlab, Sun Microsystems (Schweiz) AG and SWITCH.
The hardware in use since June 2008 is a Sun T5220 with an 8-core UltraSPARC T2 (Niagara 2) CPU running at 1.4 GHz and 64 GByte RAM running Solaris 10. In 2013 the storage was upgraded to two JBOD storage RAID6 arrays each consisting of 11x 900GB SAS2 disks with 10'000 RPM and 2x 400GB SAS2 SSDs.
The system is located in the center of Zurich and it is directly attached to the SWITCH backbone network with two 10 Gbit/s interfaces.
The Server supports FTP and HTTP over both IPv4 and IPv6.
