SWITCHmirror started its operational service on Wednesday 24 March 2004. It replaced the former Swiss SunSITE server, which had been a collaborative effort of cnlab, Sun Microsystems (Schweiz) AG and SWITCH.

The service was discontinued in November 2018. To assure continued software updates for systems configured with SWITCHmirror as package source, a server with a small subset of the former mirrors is available under the old hostname, mirror.switch.ch. It runs on a SWITCHengines VM in the LS (Lausanne) region.

The server supports HTTP over both IPv4 and IPv6.

We use the Apache HTTP server to serve the files.
